Summer 2013 Intern Sarah Golden and her curated exhibit The Burnham Family & Winnetka’s Log House

We are currently accepting applications for Fall/Winter 2017-18 internships in the following areas

Museum Collections

Catalog, photograph/scan, and rehouse artifacts, documents, and photographic materials. Train in object handling, museum registration procedures, and the PastPerfect museum software system.

Textiles and Historic Costumes

The intern will assist in inventorying and cataloging artifacts from the WHS Costume collection.  The ideal candidate will be enrolled in a graduate program in Fashion History, Fashion and Textile Studies, Public History, Museum Studies, or similar field of study. Strong attention to detail and experience with artifact handling and textiles preferred.

Historic Preservation

WHS is conducting a community-wide survey of the existing building stock in the Village. Interns will photograph structures, conduct historical research in the Village of Winnetka & WHS Building files, and record their findings into a master Village survey document. No previous survey experience is required.

Media / Website

Research and create text and images for online exhibitions and online research tools. Write social media posts and blog entries. Other projects to be determined.

APPLICATION INFORMATION:  Work schedules are flexible, with hours typically taking place between Monday-Friday between 9am-5pm and ranging from 8 to 20 hours per week.  Schedules will be determined with supervisor.  The position is adaptable to individual interests, so interns may have the opportunity to work in more than one of the areas listed above. Interns work directly under the supervision of the curator and/or the museum director. We encourage students to apply for academic credit for their work and will support credit requests. All internships are unpaid.

TO APPLY:  Please send your resume to Rachel Ramirez at curator@winnetkahistory.org with the subject line: 2017 Internship Application. Please introduce yourself, indicate which area(s) appeal to you, and if you plan to apply for course credit for the internship. Applications will be considered on a rolling basis in order of their receipt.

Additionally, we have several active, on-going volunteer opportunities; please see our Volunteer Projects page here.
