A Sense of Place: A History of Winnetka is the Winnetka Historical Society’s permanent exhibit located at 411 Linden Street. It traces the development of the Village of Winnetka from the area’s earliest non-Native settlers to the present. The exhibit is comprised of seven topics focusing on early settlement, architectural development, village growth, education, notable creative individuals, creating community, historic preservation, and an interpretation of Village Engineer Frank Windes’ office. Windes made innumerable contributions to Winnetka throughout his life including being a founder of the Winnetka Historical Society.
