Creating Communities: A History of the North Shore Exhibit

Since the first permanent settlers arrived in the19th century, the North Shore has developed a history and identity connected to, yet distinct from, Chicago. From the earliest settlements through periods of growth and change, residents of each suburb worked to create environments that served both their individual communities and the North Shore at large.
