Few Winnetkans have left a more significant and lasting legacy on the village than Frank Windes.

Born in Tennessee in 1869, Windes moved to 530 Cherry Street in 1879. After attending technical school in the city, he earned an engineering degree from the University of Michigan.

He returned to Winnetka and, as an architect and village engineer (1898-1940), was involved in many aspects of village life for six decades.
