Winnetka Film Sets: Ferris Bueller’s Day Off and Home Alone

Ferris Bueller’s Day Off

One of the most memorable moments in Ferris Bueller’s Day Off shows Ferris’ racing through streets, yards, and houses to beat his dad home and avoid getting caught for faking sick and sneaking out. Many of the scenes from this iconic sequence were filmed in Winnetka. Watch the movie clip below and see which Winnetka homes and landmarks you can spot!

Convinced that Ferris is faking his illness and skipping school, Principal Rooney goes out searching for Ferris and his crew to catch them in the act. Watch the clip below to see Principal Rooney look for Ferris at Chestnut Court in Winnetka!

Home Alone

In Home Alone, after being left behind by his family at Christmas, Kevin McCallister spends his days protecting his house from two seasoned yet clumsy burglars. Kevin’s fears are further heightened by a run-in with his neighbor Old Man Marley, who is rumored to be a murderer. Watch the clip below to see Kevin’s encounter with Old Man Marley at a Winnetka pharmacy, and see Kevin run through Hubbard Woods Park to escape the perceived danger!

As Kevin gets accustomed to being home alone, he spends his time decorating the house and rifling through his family’s prized possessions. In the movie clip below, Kevin tries to feel more like the “man of the house” by using his father’s aftershave. Startled by the sting of the product, Kevin’s screams can be heard beyond the confines of the McCallister home (filmed at 671 Lincoln in Winnetka!).
